Praveen Sharma is Chief Operating Officer at Konkola Copper Mines (KCM), bringing over 33 years of exceptional experience in mechanized underground mining operations across the Vedanta Group. A mining engineer by training, Praveen holds a Bachelor of Engineering in Mining from MBM Engineering College, Jodhpur, Rajasthan, and has built an illustrious career specializing in lead-zinc and copper underground operations.
Before joining KCM, Praveen served as Senior Vice President and Chief of Centre of Excellence (Mines) at Hindustan Zinc Limited, where he was instrumental in advancing mining innovation, operational efficiency, and best practices across multiple underground operations. His extensive career within the Vedanta Group includes senior leadership roles at Hindustan Zinc's operations, where he consistently delivered operational excellence and drove technological advancement in underground mining.
At KCM, Praveen leads critical mining operations and has been pivotal in spearheading major infrastructure investments, including the historic $700 million underground development program at Konkola Mine. Recognized as a thought leader in the mining industry, he has received prestigious honors including the MGMI Award of Excellence for Non-Coal Mining and serves as an active member of the Mining Engineers' Association of India (MEAI). His leadership emphasizes safety, innovation, and sustainable mining practices that position KCM for long-term success.
