Malcolm Mewett is Acting Chief Executive Officer of Konkola Copper Mines (KCM), bringing over 40 years of global mining expertise to lead one of Zambia's most significant copper operations. A mining engineer by training, Malcolm has built an extensive international career spanning operations across Australia, USA, United Kingdom, Turkey, Greece, and India, demonstrating exceptional versatility in navigating diverse geological and operational environments.
Prior to his current role at KCM, Malcolm served as Vice President and General Manager at ICL Boulby Mine in the United Kingdom, where he successfully managed complex underground mining operations. His career has also included senior operational roles with Eldorado Gold and Esan, further strengthening his credentials in leading large-scale mining enterprises through operational excellence and strategic transformation.
At KCM, Malcolm is spearheading an ambitious $1 billion investment program to unlock the mine's full potential, including channeling over $700 million into underground development at the Konkola Mine. His leadership focuses on ramping up copper production to 300,000 tonnes per annum, advancing the Konkola Deep Mining Project, and positioning KCM as a cornerstone of Zambia's vision to become a leading global copper producer. Malcolm is also deeply committed to community development, education, youth empowerment, and responsible mining practices that create lasting value for all stakeholders.
